GREECE JOURNAL ENTRY

September 11, 2001
PIRAEUS, GREECE (continued)

We got back to the ship and Mike, now refreshed, took over the children duty. I went to get spa services. Later, as I was getting dressed, the Captain came on the P.A. to announce that in light of what happened he wanted to let the passengers know that we would be safe. I had no idea what he was talking about. As I made my way back to my stateroom, I passed many somber groups of passengers and crew talking in low tones. I finally went up to two crew members and asked them what was going on. They told me the deplorable news. I got back to our stateroom as fast as possible and found Mike. The kids were at the Fun Factory. As Mike and I watched CNN, we couldn't believe what we saw.

The mood on the ship was not the same needless to say. Mike and I discussed what we should tell the kids or if we should tell them anything at all. We decided to give them a short version of the story without planes. Just as we finished telling them, the Captain came on the P.A. and went into some detail as to what had happened in America so we were glad we had told the kids first.

I felt so angry and I felt hatred toward those responsible. I didn't know what to do with the anger. The Captain set up a room on the ship for silent prayer. Mike and I went to pray because it was the only positive thing we could do. It did help.
